Being A Good Person Isn’t Enough To Get Into Heaven

They’re a lot of kind-hearted good people in the world. I argue to say that most good people you find in the world are not Christians. There are plenty of people you would consider good in the world who have done more kind acts than your average Christian on a Sunday. What sets a Christian from a non-Christian apart? The Christian is saved by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ. Romans 5:9 states, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” You must understand God requires one to be perfect to get into heaven. A good person can do 100 good deeds, but if they sin once, that is justifiable for them to go to hell for eternity. Romans 6:23 states, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The Christians were smart enough to receive the gift of salvation. Many people in the world think they don’t need Christ and the church to be justified. You must understand there’s a difference between being good and being holy, being holy is to be perfect in the sight of God. You may think the things you’re doing are righteous in Gods site, but in the end, he detests them. Proverbs 14:12 states, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Being good will gain you honor amongst men, but being holy will gain you honor amongst God. According to the Bible, there’s no good deed that can get us into heaven, only through salvation in Christ are we saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

When we begin to focus on works to get into heaven, we begin to revert to the curse of the law that the ancient Jews abided by. For the Jews to be cleansed of their sins, animal blood had to be shed and offered to God as an act of sacrifice for repentance. Blood was needed for reconciliation. Remember I stated earlier that sins are punishable by death. However, this was a temporal fix. These sacrifices would not redeem them eternally from their sins. Only blood from a perfect being who lived a perfect life on earth such as Jesus Christ could redeem us eternally.

Hebrews 10:1-6 states, “[1] For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

[2] For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

[3] But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

[4] For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

[5] Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

[6] In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.”

From this, I hope it’s been made clear that Salvation through Jesus Christ's blood makes one perfect in the sight of God. Why? The blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ cleanses us from past, present, and future sins. When God looks at us he’s sees the perfect life Jesus lived instead of our own flawed lifestyles.

In summary, you can be a list of these things:

  1. Good father

  2. Good mother

  3. Honorable police officer

  4. Honorable soldier

  5. Pacifist

  6. Freedom fighter

  7. Honorable politician

  8. Influential social media figure

  9. Ethical leader

All these types of people have either saved or affected lives in a good manner, but still would not be considered perfect alone in the sight of God. Without Jesus Christ's blood, our righteousness can’t even surpass that of the Pharisees (Matthew 5:20). Isaiah 64:6 states, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

They're a lot of what the world considers good people in hell, my hope for you is to not be one of them. God has called us to be more than just a person of good deeds, but a person that is holy and acceptable in his sight. If you’re not saved, please accept the blood of Jesus Christ now.
